A NASA Astronaut Will Guide This Eclipse Voyage Through Greenland’s Fjords

EYOS Expeditions will sail up to 22 guests into Scoresby Sund for August's eclipse, guided by trailblazing astronaut Dr. Kathy Sullivan.

There is no shortage of ways to experience the upcoming total solar eclipse, but few rival watching it from a luxury expedition ship in the remote waters of the Arctic. EYOS Expeditions is offering a small group of travellers exactly that, with a new seven-day voyage through Greenland this August.

The luxury expedition yacht Aqua Lares will trace the path of totality deep into East Greenland to Scoresby Sund, the largest and longest fjord system in the world. On August 12, guests will take in the eclipse from the calm of the open water, surrounded only by icebergs and fjords. Scoresby Sund ranks among the finest vantage points on the planet for the event, delivering more than a minute and 45 seconds of totality with next to no light pollution.

Guiding the journey is Dr. Kathy Sullivan, a NASA astronaut, geologist, oceanographer and U.S. Navy officer who will share her insight on everything from the seabed to the stratosphere. Sullivan has flown to space three times, logging more than 532 hours in orbit, and she has made history twice over: she became the first American woman to complete a spacewalk in 1984 and the first woman to reach the deepest known point in the ocean in 2020. Photographer David Wright, whose work has appeared in National Geographic, will also sail along to capture keepsake images for guests.

The expedition runs August 11 to 18, with cabins starting at US$32,000 per person. Booking details at eyos-expeditions.com.
