Mandarin Oriental Just Opened Its First Hotel in the Balearic Islands

The brand's first property in the Balearic Islands brings cliffside gardens, private coves and six restaurants to the Mediterranean.

Just in time for summer, Mandarin Oriental has unveiled a new resort on Mallorca, and it happens to be the group’s sole hotel debut of 2026. Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra is the brand’s first property in the Balearic Islands and its third in Spain, set on the peninsula of Costa d’en Blanes with a cliffside perch over the Mediterranean’s famously clear waters.

The setting is a large part of the appeal. The resort enjoys exclusive access to a pair of natural coves and white-sand beaches, putting the sea directly at guests’ feet, while the well-known Puerto Portals marina sits close by for anyone arriving by superyacht. Seven acres of cliffside gardens deepen the connection to the landscape.

That sense of place carries into the 131 guest rooms, which include 44 suites and nine bungalows, each with space devoted to indoor-outdoor living. Madrid-based BG Arquitectura and interior designer Laura Gonzales collaborated on the interiors, layering in warm, sand-toned hues and other cues drawn from the calm, artist-attracting character of Mallorca.

Dining is positioned as a headline draw, with six restaurants that each take inspiration from a facet of the island. Matsuhisa anchors the lineup with coastal Japanese cuisine, sushi and craft cocktails, complete with a dedicated sushi counter. At Leña, chef Dani García turns out live-fire dishes from the steakhouse. The remaining venues span Jacinta, an upscale Mexican taqueria; Leppoc, where Spanish cooking meets Levantine flavours using Balearic produce; Sobretaula, a seaside tapas spot that transforms after dark into a hot spot with a resident DJ; and Thalos, a poolside restaurant serving Greek-inspired plates.

Beyond the table, a seaside spa offers treatments rooted in local rituals, and the wellness facilities include an indoor pool, two oceanfront pools, steam rooms and cold plunges.
